Recon Instruments

Recon Instrument's product, Snow 2, is the next generation heads-up display for alpine sports. You can get instant data on performance metrics, connect to third party sensors and cameras, and it has smartphone connectivity.

Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It is a capable little computer which can be used in electronics projects, and for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video.

  • We'll have a handful of Raspberry Pi boards available to teams
  • You can bring your own if you'd like to


Arrow is providing wireless sensor application boards, microcontrollers, and BugLabs' Freeboard, which can be used to build IoT Applications:

  • The Renesas Demonstration Kit for RL78/G14. The goal is to provide the user with a powerful debug and demo platform targeted at common applications.
  • BugLabs' freeboard™ is a web-based tool that allows you to build beautiful, fully-interactive user interfaces for your connected devices; things like dashboards, consoles, control panels, etc.
  • BugLabs' dweet™ is a super-simple-to-use, hosted Web service/messaging platform for getting your "thing" talking and sharing information on the Internet. Works with any device that can make a network connection.
  • The RTX41xx Development Kit offers a comprehensive way of evaluating the performance, features and dev of custom code to target onto the RTX41xx 802.11 b/g/n/ low power model.
  • Freescale Freedom Development Platform for Kinetis KL14/15/24/25 MCUs – The FRDM-KL25Z is an ultra-low-cost development platform for Kinetis L Series - KL1x (KL14/15) and KL2x (KL24/25) MCUs built on ARM® Cortex™-M0+ processor. Hackers can now utilize at no charge, with full access to the online SDK, tools, reusable code — which means no downloads, installations or licenses — and an active community of developers.
  • Nimbelink offers Skywire™ cellular modem which are the industry’s smallest plug-in cellular modem, available in five different models and as part of a complete development kit. For ease of implementation, Skywire cellular modems are available complete with affordable monthly service plans. The HSPA+ module includes a Micro-SIM card slot that can accommodate a Micro-SIM form factor SIM card from any carrier. Other footprint compatible products support 1xRTT, EVDO and LTE, and like our other products will let you quickly, easily, and economically incorporate fully-compliant cellular connectivity into devices without having to apply for certification on the CDMA network.
  • SenseAbility+ from Honeywell is a complete Internet of Things (IoT) solution kit. It is an edge to enterprise solution used to build a winning IoT applications from the sensor to the enterprise. The kit is is 802.11 b/g/n capable and connects directly to the Bug Labs and 2lemetry cloud platforms. Battery operated, the kit also has the following sensors, 3 axis accelerometer, ambient light sensor, NTC thermistor, humidity, pressure, air flow, and hall effect.

Mojio is a cellular and GPS device that makes any car a smart car. This allows you to have a car-connected app on your phone.

IoT Design Shop

IoT Design Shop's iBeacon technology is an emerging standard for bluetooth proximity facilitating indoor location services for retail, tracking, & timing.

U Grok It

U Grok It is Smartphone RFID, opening up the Internet of Things for easy development and deployment. RFID is revolutionizing inventory/asset management/tracking including enhancing the customer experience at Whistler Resorts. Participants will have access to:

  • U Grok It devices (Grokkers) and iPods that can be used for development
  • SDKs for iOS, Android and Cordova
  • A selection of RFID tags for development use including Whistler's RFID Access cards (provided by Whistler Resort)
  • U Grok It engineers available to support the hack a thon teams 24/7.

Whistler Blackcomb

You'll have access to Whistler Blackcomb data such as lift lines, grooming status, open runs, etc.

  • Alpine Zone - Shows the current status of the each alpine bowl
  • Conditions - Shows the current day conditions, including weather summary, snowfall stats, run of the day and event information
  • Grooming - Current day groomed trails. Includes the mountain and the zone that the trail is location. Status = Groomed or Open (run is open but not groomed).
  • Lifts - Current day. Shows the mountain as well as light name. Has two statuses: Lift Status Open/Closed/Standby and Lift Wait Closed/Open Light/Open Moderate/Open Busy/Standby
  • Lift Information - List of the lifts with the Vertical meters and average lift ride time.
  • Weather Data - Last 24 hours of weather data from our stations (note we do not use the precip and new snow readings on our site as the accuracy is not good enough, new snow measurements come from patrol and are on the conditions feed). Wind direction, pressure, temp etc.
  • Sample Guest RFID Data - Examples of guest’s day on the mountain with lifts ridden that could be used with the Lift Information to provide a picture of a guests day on the mountain.

Tourism Whistler

You'll have access to Tourism Whistler data such upcoming events and business listings.

  • Events XML - You will have access to an XML that is published each night, showing upcoming events being held in Whistler.
  • Business Listing - You will have access to a CSV file that lists all Whistler businesses and their Latitude/Longitude. This could be useful for any type of geo-location application.
